Tip: Even though the trip is announced as "jeep-boat-jeep" it is more a "minibus-boat-minibus"
All the agencies offer this for $19, and there are plenty to choose from in La Fortuna. The trip is supposed to take 3 hours but in our case it took an extra half an hour because there was a van crossed in the middle of the road. Nobody was surprised given the state of the road, which was not even paved. In fact, was that even a road? The trip was good fun, though.
View from the boat; Volcán Arenal is covered by mist
Afternoon: Booking the night hike & relax.
We decided to stay in Cabinas Eddy, I guess there would be better places but definitely there are worse (we saw some of them). Then, we had lunch at Morpho's, quite a nice little restaurant.
Tip: the night hike starts at 17:00 when they pick you from your hotel/cabinas
We did the hike at the Refugio Vida Silvestre Monteverde, for $17. There was another one for just $15, but this one was supposed to include more animals and likelihood of success. The tour is absolutely a must, just the fact of walking around in a forest at night with torches is amazing, plus you have a guide that spots animals for you and tells you interesting things. We spotted a sloth, some sleeping birds, frogs and even an albino tarantula, quite exciting.
We were back at 20:00 and had some beer and wine at the Hotel.
